  european court of human rights vindicates jehovahs witnesses in france the european court of human rights published its unanimous ruling in our favour against the french government's demand for 60% tax on donations back dated to 1993-1996 for $79 million.

  this will have great implications for other european countries who would like to do the same thing to us and effectively stop our work.

  they sought to obligate the association of jehovahs witnesses of france to pay 58 million euros (over $82,000,000 us), which far exceeds all the assets of the association.

  The European Court of Human Rights published its unanimous ruling in our favour against the French Government's demand for 60% tax on donations back dated to 1993-1996 for $79 million. This will have great implications for other European countries who would like to do the same thing to us and effectively stop our work. They sought to obligate the Association of Jehovah’s Witnesses of France to pay 58 million Euros (over $82,000,000 US), which far exceeds all the assets of the Association. No other major religion in France has ever been submitted to such excessive taxation. This was by no means an open and shut case, and the brothers had plans to deal with the situation if we lost. “We have always been confident that our position in this matter was correct. It was unjust for the government to use taxation as a weapon against the fifth largest religion in France,” said Michel Blaser, president of the Association of Jehovah’s Witnesses of France. Mr. Blaser also noted, “Jehovah’s Witnesses are scrupulously honest when it comes to paying taxes. The donations Jehovah’s Witnesses give to their religion should not be taxed any more than the offerings at any other church. This case is a victory for the human rights of all who live in France and hopefully will mark the end of religious harassment for residents of France who are Jehovah’s Witnesses.” ============================================= Please excuse me if this has been already posted.   JOHN-Paul Langbroek says he'll step down as Queensland Opposition leader.

  At a joint press conference, Deputy Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg also said he was resigning from his post.

  Mr Langbroek said he wished Campbell Newman well, after the Brisbane Lord Mayor announced he'll seek to enter state politics and mount a leadership challenge.

  Mr Springborg said it was an enormous privilege to serve under Mr Langbroek, his good friend.

  He said he would stand down as Deputy.

  "Obviously, people have charted a different course. The ball is in their court," he said.

  Mr Langbroek said he would resign today.

  He said he had the best interests of Queenslanders at heart in making the decision but "the course has been set by others in the party".

  Mr Springborg announced his resignation as "a consequence of events in the last couple of days".

  He said it was an unprecedented process and Liberal National Party (LNP) MPs would meet at 6pm (AEST) to decide on an interim leader.

  "We have never seen this in the history of Queensland politics," Mr Springborg said.

  Mr Langbroek said he would recontest his Surfers Paradise seat.

  But Mr Springborg would not confirm he'd recontest his seat of Southern Downs, saying he'd discuss it with his family.

  However, both men said they would not accept positions in the shadow ministry.

  Mr Langbroek said it was for others to decide how well he'd led the party.

  "I have no regrets that I'm going to talk about here," he said.

  He said it was time to think of the future, not the past.

  When asked what he'd done wrong, Mr Langbroek said: "That's for other people to judge".

  "No individual is bigger than the LNP.

  "It's a treacherous business."

  What are the names of the current GB members? Do the R&F know the Names?

  i never knew who was controlling my life.

  i didn't know who they were, how they governed, what they personally believed etc.. granted the wtbts never put any of that out there but there are people who knew them and would of course relate "experiences" of meeting them and from that you could derive certain aspects of their personality.. i never thought to investigate the leadership until i started asking questions.. so how many are there now and what are their names?

  i would like to ask my family if they can name them by heart.

  Did James Cameron Rip Off Poul Anderson's Novella?

  i picked up a $2 book of 1950's short stories.

  was reading one by poul anderson written in 1957 called "call me joe" and realised i was reading the script for avatar!.

  i googled and see that many think cameron has ripped off this short story for his film.
